Ocean Beach Real Estate

Ocean Beach is a quaint beach community located to the south of Mission Bay, just west of Old Town. Known to locals simply as OB, the community is known for its laid-back attitude. Although it is only seven miles northwest of downtown San Diego, it is fairly isolated due to Point Loma Peninsula and Mission Bay Channel. OB is the southernmost public beach on the Point Loma Peninsula.

Ocean Beach real estate is a mix of classic beach bungalows, condos and townhomes. Homes that lie more than four blocks inland often have fantastic ocean views from the steep hillsides. Some affordable housing, relative to other local beach-area prices, can be found in Ocean Beach. Because of narrow streets and limited off-street parking, locals often use alternative forms of transportation, such as beach cruisers and skate boards for getting around town.

Newport Avenue is packed with restaurants, antique stores, pubs and surf shops. Residents and tourists walk the streets enjoying the great beach climate, and locals can be seen sporting the “OB” sticker on their car, an “OB” with a bird flying over it.
 
The community hosts one of the County’s more popular Farmers Markets every Wednesday, where you can pick up locally grown produce in a vibrant atmosphere.
Ocean Beach is a very dog-friendly town. Dog Beach, located just south of the Mission Bay Channel, is a spot where dogs can run and play on the beach without a leash. Of course, owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. Dog Beach is open to the public all hours of the day.
 
Recreation is abundant in OB. Robb Field is an athletic field complex that offers softball, rugby, soccer, flag football, tennis, and a skate park. Surfing is also a popular pastime. Ocean Beach has several very good breaks including the Ocean Beach pier, the jetty, and Sunset Cliffs not far away.
