Mission Beach Recreation and Parks

Mission Beach's boardwalk, or “the strand,” as is commonly referred to by the locals, runs the full length of the beach, from the south end at the jetty, all the way into Pacific Beach 's Crystal Pier. The entire length of the boardwalk is 2 ¾ miles, making it a popular jogging and walking route during all hours of the day. The strand is also ideal for skateboarding, rollerblading, and bikeriding. And with plenty of bike rental shops along the way, nobody should be without the infamous beach cruiser down here in Mission Beach.

Mission Beach also has some great waves to check out, from the south end at the jetty to the north end near Pacific Beach. Designated areas are clearly marked with checkered flags for surfing, bodyboarding, and swimming spots. At night, bring out the friends and marshmallows and graham crackers for some s'mores around the bonfire. Bonfire pits are located along the beach beginning at the south end of Mission Beach at the jetty and are always a good nighttime activity for everyone.

In addition to the beach scene, Mission Beach also has its own bay, running the length of Mission Beach and further north to Pacific Beach. Mission Bay is another hot spot for locals and tourists to spend their leisurely time at because of its spread out location both on and off shore. With the course of the bay covering an area of more than 10 miles around, the trail is ideal for walkers and joggers at any starting point. The sandy and grassy areas of the shore provide ideal picnic and sunbathing sites, and the bay is always a popular destination for boaters and aquatic activities.

Mission Bay Aquatic Center is located centrally around the bay at Santa Clara Place and offers a wide range of aquatic classes and activities that take part in or around the bay. The Mission Bay Sportcenter is located just north of the aquatic center, and provides boat rentals, as well as aquatic lessons and programs for: surfing, sailing, water skiing and wakeboarding.
