Mira Mesa Homes for Sale
Mira Mesa was originally part of a Mexican land grant rancho, but before the First World War, the area was used as a camp and testing ground for the military. With the build-up of nearby Navy and Marine bases, Mira Mesa became the home of many military families, including those recruits involved in the Navy’s Top Gun School. The community continues to have a large part of its population made up of military families who work at NAS Miramar and the Marine Corps Air Station nearby. In the 1990s, commercial centers were built in Mira Mesa to serve the growing residential area and newer ethnic markets have opened to serve Philipino and Vietnamese customers who live here. The area provides a healthy balance of business and residential zoned neighborhoods where shopping and recreational activities can exist side-by-side with office space, technological facilities, and single-family neighborhoods. A major employer in Mira Mesa is the Sorrento Valley business and technology park which attracts high-tech and small businesses in an office park. With more than 80,000 residents, including families, students, hi-tech employees, military personnel, and others, Mira Mesa is an active and growing community where the median age is a young 32 years. Along with eight community parks, teen and senior centers, ice arena, aquatic complex, shopping centers, and movie theaters, Mira Mesa offers a perfect blend of Southern California living. There is always something to do in Mira Mesa and great shopping and restaurants to enjoy an evening out. Major events in Mira Mesa include the annual October Mira Mesa Street Fair, held just west of Mira Mesa Community Park, that attracts many people from around the region for food, games, and entertainment.
