La Jolla Shores

La Jolla Shores comprises a mile-long flat sand beach and adjacent residential area. With the most gentle current of San Diego’s 70 coastline miles, La Jolla Shores Beach (or “Shores,” as it is commonly known) is a popular destination for sunbathing and swimming. The Shores neighborhood was subdivided and developed around 1900, and various renovations since give the area a charming and eclectic composition. The luxurious La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club was built in 1935 and is located at the neighborhood’s southern end. The small Shores business district centers on Avenida de la Playa with shops, restaurants, and some professional offices. At the end of Avenida de la Playa is San Diego’s only beachfront boat launch, where vehicles and vessels can actually traverse the sand en route to the ocean!
