Julian is a great place for the family to visit on weekends to learn about life in Southern California during the gold rush of the 1880s. Julian has a historical society and tourist stops demonstrating how the gold was panned and mined in the area. Main street is also a great place for a bit to eat and to browse the shops and boutiques. And there are local campsites, hiking trails, horse-riding, and even winter events that attract people out from San Diego to spend the weekend.
