Julian is a great destination for families and couples looking for a unique day out in the San Diego backcountry. Local restaurants pride themselves on American food and especially the fresh apple pies that are a specialty of Julian. Among the many great restaurants in Julian are the Apple Alley Bakery; Bailey Woodpit Barbecue with Texas style barbecue and wood smoked meats; Candied Apple Pastry Company; the Cowgirl Café, a charming rustic decor with a cowgirl touch; Dudley's Bakery; the Julian Café (& Bakery); The Julian Grille; and the Julian Pie Company which serves great apple pies and cider for locals and tourists. It’s always a special treat to head out to Julian for some great cooking and delicious apple pie. And although the saying goes that you should never eat at a place called Mom’s, this is one exception with Mom's Pies on Main Street, one of the best places for pies, pastries, cider, and other fruit confections.
